My name is Vin Gaeta; I am a recent graduate of Quinnipiac University. I have a huge passion for design, abstract things, and graphic media in general. Often I'll find myself searching for inspiration in my free time, whether that means taking a walk on a beautiful day, or researching other designers' work to get ideas. Some of my biggest inspiration comes from the works of artists such as Salvador Dali and Shepard Fairey.
The KJ Method was an interesting project to work on. I used the motif of gears and cogs to display how the method requires cooperation and working together. I wanted to illustrate how the KJ Method is almost like a finely tuned machine, working together for a greater purpose. The use of cool colors, and the over all layout was implemented to give a calming flow to the article. The hues of blue, green and violet create an analogous color scheme that is pleasing to the eye. For this project I was required to take an existing beverage product, redesign the bottle material, label, and feel of the product. I chose to create a concept for an aluminum Heineken bottle. I wanted to keep the classic Heineken colors of green, red, and white, but redesign it in a way that gave it a more modern feel. Using the Heineken star at the forefront of the design was a decision that seems to have paid off with a bold but simplistic design.
Creating a Dove bottle was an interesting project. I modeled the bottle in three sections: the base, the cap, and the lid. Working in this manner allowed me to add more details, and also focus on mapping the texture onto the bottle. The bottle was originally supposed to be placed in an environment, but it seemed to take away from the actual model. I attempted to accentuate the grooves where the cap and lid connect with the bottle. By doing this as well as beveling the edges on the body, I feel that I gave the bottle a more realistic appearance.
For this project I created a public service announcement for the American Heart Association. The animation is complimented by the music of Rolfe Kent, giving it a very serious tone. The color changing from a sickly shade of green, to a heart healthy shade of red is a focal point. This is to emphasize the change one should make to avoid heart disease. Creating an animation for a song was a very interesting process for me. I wanted to evoke the emotions I felt in the music, and bring certain things to a forefront. While listening to Steve Vai' Freak Show Excess I felt as if the song should be from the 70's, which is shown in the bright colors, and in your face shapes. I used the shapes and colors to give an almost psychedelic feel to the animation. I wanted there to be some form of linear progression, which can be seen with the opening of the chest and the coloring of the black void. To view the animation Click Here.
